Spruce Up Your Home for Spring

Do you have to get yourself in the mood to spring clean? I definitely do. My motivation is always a well-deserved treat at the end of the long list of chores. Reorganize every closet in the house? No problem! There’s a delicious chocolate chip cookie (or three) waiting at the finish line. Clean the baseboards? Just keep thinking about those cute pillows that will look great on the sofa in the now CLEAN living room. Yes, a reward at the finish line always gets me a little more motivated. Whether it’s a sweet treat or a new accessory to help freshen up a space in my home, I use the reward to get results – a beautiful, clean home! There is really nothing better.

When I start the deep cleaning process, I start thinking about what I could do in each room of my home to give it a fresh, updated look. I can’t always justify a new piece of furniture or painting an entire room, but it is truly amazing how a new lamp, a couple of fun pillows, or a new set of candleholders can transform an area.

I like to mix up pillows in different seasons. When winter finally gives way to sunny spring days, I like to pull out brighter pillows to give my living room sofa a pop of color! Once days become shorter and nights become cooler in the fall, I add a soft, cuddly throw and pillows in warmer tones to make my space feel a little cozier. These small changes can really make dramatic statements and help keep things fresh. Your home is your sanctuary, and you deserve to thoroughly enjoy it!

As we head into warmer spring days, how are you sprucing up your home for spring after the dreaded deep clean? If you are looking to tackle a bigger project than simply trading out pillows, I am currently loving these two looks! The sofas are neutral and provide a perfect backdrop for any mood you are currently feeling.

The accent chairs and pillows add pops of color that just make me smile. Envision yourself sitting in a warm, sunny room in your home sipping a nice glass of lemonade with a great book. These accent chairs finish off the vision perfectly!

I have also been really inspired recently by this new whitewashed bedroom group. It has a light and casual feel. It can help brighten up any bedroom. The best part? The collection is available in both youth and adult styles!

This dressing chest is also a unique piece that brings out trendy farmhouse vibes with the sliding barn door look.

Until next time,

In case you want a sweet treat at the end of your spring cleaning chore list, I am sharing the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe by Lindsay from “Pinch of Yum”!

Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

Author: Pinch of Yum

Serves: 10-12 big cookies

Ingredients

  • 7 tablespoons salted butter

  • ¾ cup white sugar

  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 egg

  • 1¼ cup all purpose flour (to start, but plan to add a few tablespoons)

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup mixed varieties of chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Put the butter in the oven in a stainless steel or glass bowl as it's preheating until about one third to one half of the butter is melted. Do not melt more than half of the butter. Turn the oven off. Let the butter come back to room temperature for at least 30 minutes - it doesn't have to harden completely but it should be a soft solid.

  2. Add the sugar and vanilla. Cream with electric mixers until well mixed and lightly fluffy. Add the eggs and beat until incorporated..

  3. Measure in the flour, baking soda, and salt. You can do this in a separate bowl, but I usually just dump it all into the mixing bowl. Slowly mix with the electric mixer on low speed, scraping the sides, until all the flour is incorporated. If the dough sticks to the sides of the bowl and looks wet, add one tablespoon of extra flour at a time until the dough feels dry and sticks together in one large ball. Too much flour will make the cookie stiff, so stop adding flour right when the dough starts to take on that dry look and feel. Stir in the chocolate chips with a wooden spoon.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll ¼ cup dough into high, round balls with chocolate chips at the top. Place on a baking sheet a few inches apart and bake for about 9 minutes. You want to take them out when they are puffy and just a tiny bit brown on the tops and edges. Let stand for a few minutes - they will lose a little of their puffiness but they should stay thick and hold together well.
