Trending in 2018

January 29, 2018

As we enter a new year, we often focus on the new home trends for the upcoming year. This year route trends seem to be making their way to the forefront. Sometimes the exterior style of a home influences your interior style. The recent trend to renovate older homes is central to the style trends we are seeing in interior spaces.

Farmhouse continues to be one of the most popular trends.  Often thought of as a utilitarian style, it fits very well into a casual, comfortable lifestyle. The farmhouse of the past focused on usefulness. Therefore the furnishings were not ornate or fussy. This fits very well into the casual lifestyle many of us live in today.

Many Farmhouse styles focused on storage. Keeping things neat and orderly is the focused of today's farmhouse furnishings. The Bolanburg dining group is a great example of Farmhouse style and storage. This grouping even has drawers in the table for extra storage! Storage pieces offer useful ways to contain clutter with beautiful styling.

Mid-Century Modern style is continuing to see a great resurgence. With more and more people renovating homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, this style has become very popular. Mid-century modern styles were very clean and sleek. At the time it first became popular, it was also referred to as Danish Modern. These furnishings have straight legs, exposed wood, and sleek arm styling. If you like a clear, modern look, this style is for you. The new designs of this old favorite are in updated upholstery fabrics to blend with present day interiors.

If you lived through the 1970s, you are probably familiar with a style that has come to be known as Bohemian. The Bohemian style is characterized by bright colors on a neutral pallet. Furnishings are very textural with fiber wall hangings, embroidered pillows, baskets, and plants taking center stage.

Finally, traditional interiors are always a mainstay! Classic and timeless sums up this style. You can replace one or two pieces in your traditional style setting to give the room a new, fresh feel.

With navy being a hot color in the design world, traditional blue pottery pieces are trending. You can keep the blue pottery pieces simple and elegant just exactly as it as or add some greenery or florals for a fresh, updated look.

Whether it is one of these styles or something else, come to Merison's Home Furnishings for ideas to make your home beautiful. We offer free design consultations both at the store or in your home or office. Our goal is to help you create the look you envision for your space!
